DIGITAL NEWS REPORT ITALIA 2025
Il Digital News Report Italia è uno studio condotto dal Master in Giornalismo “Giorgio Bocca” promosso dall’Università di Torino, con il supporto del Reuters Institute di Oxford, che ha l’obiettivo di indagare sulle principali trasformazioni delle abitudini di consumo e il grado di informazione (nonché, in alcuni casi, di disinformazione) relative al panorama mediatico del nostro Paese.
I primi dati
Come denota il documento ufficiale, l’indagine mette in evidenza “nodi critici e opportunità su cui riflettere per affrontare sfide come la sfiducia nell’informazione, la frammentazione dell’audience, la disinformazione e le potenzialità dell’intelligenza artificiale”.
Nello specifico, l’interesse per le notizie quotidiane è sceso di circa il 30% nell’ultimo decennio: nel 2016 il dato era al 74%, oggi solo il 39% degli italiani si reputa molto interessato alle notizie. Nonostante ciò quella percentuale di persone resta legata al flusso informativo – seppur frammentario, rapido e spesso guidato dagli algoritmi – consultando più volte al giorno le notizie.
Si delinea dunque un grande paradosso all’interno dell’indagine, sottolineando come l’informazione sia diventata il più delle volte un’abitudine automatica, raramente guidata dalla reale curiosità o dal bisogno di approfondire un determinato argomento.
Questo dato invita dunque a ripensare non tanto al “che cosa” si racconta, quanto al “come” e al “dove” lo si presenta, per far sì che la fruizione distratta e superficiale si trasformi in un impegno consapevole e duraturo.
Canali di informazione
La televisione mantiene la sua leadership tra i mezzi di informazione più consultati e fidati, anche grazie alle abitudini radicate dai singoli individui: il 66% la utilizza settimanalmente e il 51% la considera la propria fonte principale. Mentre l’online – pur essendo centrale nelle vite degli italiani – fatica a decollare come fonte autorevole di informazione giornaliera.
In questo scenario, i social web confermano la loro via di accesso preferenziale alle news, con tutti i rischi del caso, ponendosi davanti alle testate digitali e ai giornalisti indipendenti; un passo avanti lo hanno registrato anche alcune testate native digitali grazie ai loro formati agili, innovativi e personalizzabili, riuscendo a conquistare un pubblico sempre più ampio.
Disinformazione e fiducia nelle notizie
La fiducia nell’informazione risale lievemente al 36% nel 2025, restando tuttavia su livelli piuttosto bassi e premiando soprattutto le testate del centrosinistra e del centrodestra, perché percepite come meno schierate e più obiettive. Diverso è l’approccio verso i social, i creator digitali e i politici, considerati come principali veicoli di disinformazione.
I giornali locali e regionali, invece, si distinguono positivamente, confermando la vitalità dell’informazione di prossimità: viene conteggiato un 81% di italiani interessati a tali argomenti, poiché raccontano storie concrete e restituiscono un senso di comunità.
In tale contesto, l’indagine pone come prerogativa l’importanza di sviluppare un piano integrato di news literacy e moderazione dei contenuti, al fine di verificare la trasparenza delle fonti e la veridicità dei fatti. A tali iniziative, i dati riportati dall’indagine restituiscono un 17% di italiani interessati alle iniziative di alfabetizzazione mediatica: un dato ancora troppo basso rispetto agli altri paesi europei. Ad abbassare questa percentuale sono certamente i cosiddetti “news avoiders”, ovvero coloro che optano per la disinformazione per evitare impatti negativi sul proprio umore, sovraccarico emotivo e informativo, nonché – come già sottolineato – dalla percezione di inaffidabilità delle fonti.
Formati delle news e propensione agli abbonamenti
Nonostante l’onda digitale e la diffusione dei canali social, a prevalere tra gli altri formati di diffusione delle informazioni è sempre il testo scritto (55% degli italiani), preferito ai video (21%) e ai podcast (11%), i quali restano ancora rivolti a un mercato di nicchia: il 71% degli ascoltatori di podcast ne apprezza il valore trasmesso, ma solo il 37% di essi sarebbe disposto a pagare per usufruire di tali contenuti audio.
Infatti, un altro dato interessante riportato dall’indagine riguarda la propensione degli italiani a pagare per accedere alle notizie online: solo il 9%, infatti, è disposto ad abbonarsi o ad usufruire di notizie a pagamento, facendo registrare un livello sempre più basso rispetto ad altri paesi europei. Un maggior incentivo all’abbonamento proviene dalla proposta di “bundle” con accesso a più siti di news.
Intelligenza artificiale
Rispetto all’IA, il report afferma che gli italiani sono ancora scettici verso le news prodotte dalle macchine, nonostante ne riconoscano il vantaggio di ricevere notizie più rapide, accurate e di immediata comprensione, rispetto al giornalismo tradizionale. Si reputano tuttavia meno scettici quando l’IA viene affiancata al lavoro tradizionale dei giornalisti.
I servizi più apprezzati generati dall’intelligenza artificiale, però, restano la traduzione automatica, i riepiloghi rapidi, la personalizzazione delle homepage e le risposte rapide dei chatbot.

A fronte dei dati riportati, ci piacerebbe concludere riportando le parole di Laura Scomparin, Direttrice scientifica del Master:
“Nonostante il continuo calo della domanda da parte del pubblico, l’informazione resta un’abitudine. Cambiano le forme, cambiano i consumi, ma il bisogno rimane: monitorarne l’evoluzione ci aiuta a capire non solo dove va questa industria, ma anche dove va la nostra società, e quali strumenti interpretativi siano più utili, non solo per chi si occupa di media”.
